Better Said Than Done, the storytelling troupe I run in Northern Virginia, was honored to participate for the fourth year in a row in George Mason University’s Fall for the Book Festival. The festival is a week long celebration of authors, writers, and readers. Better Said Than Done hosted two events during Fall for the Book.

On Tuesday, Mary Supley Foxworth and I ran a storytelling workshop. We had a great group of students, many of whom were willing to stand up and share their stories, despite having just developed them on the spot! Our usual workshops are 4 hours long. In this condensed, 1 hour workshop, we focused on developing a strong central character through telling an origin story.

On Thursday evening, Better Said Than Done storytellers shared true, personal stories on the theme of “The Impossible Dream.” I told a story about the challenge of writing and finishing Caged. Like all our storytelling shows, we had a great group of storytellers. The audience was typically wonderful but atypically filled with people who attended as part of the Fall for the Book Festival. It was great to see so many new faces along with our usual suspects.
